Two Squads Of Death Korps

I took a break from painting to base a few of the almost completed squads. Technically there are three squads in this photo, but the engineers really need to be a full 10 man squad rather than a 5 man and 7 man squad respectively. Two more infantry squads are on the table just to the right of the finished models. Instead of finishing them, I think I'll go back and finish the artillery crew. They are nearing completion as well, and are essential to the army. At some point before NOVA I may paint the jacket collars a dark green. At least the army can be visualized now. It will just be bigger.

    1. Thanks. I like the interplay between the yellow in the base and the blue green on the mini. I've got to tone down the matte though. It is adding a bit too much of a blue filter.

  2. Have to agree the bases set them off really well. It will be a great looking army when finished.

    3. Oh man, I WISH! I'm not leaving the country this year ;( I just renewed my passport and I even have that week off with the family so I could have made it down and stopped by the event for a day or so to meet up with everyone while they bummed around town seeing the sights. Alas, the exchange rate conspired to keep us away from Europe, the UK and the USA this summer.

    1. These are essentially german grey, with lighter green highlighting, and then powder blue for the pants. I can't remember which ones precisely, but they were Vallejo.

  5. Hello,
these DKoK are perfect! I tried now for quite some time to recreate your paint scheme, but i am failing miserably.
Could you help a fellow hoppyist out by giving me a somewhat step by step tutorial, in particulary for the coats/inside of the coats and the trousers?

    I would be indefinitely grateful!

    1. I appreciate the comments. I painted these a long time ago, so my memory is rusty. However, I do plan to paint up a squad soon, so I'll lay out my rediscovered color scheme on that post. The basics though are German light blue for the pants, German grey for the armor, and bronze green for the greatcoats. At least that is what I remember right now. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

    3. Hey! Any update on the DKoK, now that the Dwarves are finished?

    4. Since the almost unending Dwarves, I've painted an entire Death Guard army, and started a new Primaris Ultramarines force. I am planning on painting some IG soon, though they might not be DKoK. DKoK are coming, but I am enjoying these little side projects first. I think my next DKOK will be the medic squad. That is one of the creepiest and coolest stets around.

I would really apppreciate if you could tell me what you used for them, i tried beige and pastel green but i am not quite satisfied with the results. Help really appreciated!

  6. Hi John,

I know this blog post is almost a decade old but I’ve got some resin DKOK miniatures and could not for the life of me decide on a color scheme. I thought I’d go for a WWI German aesthetic and was using Scrivsland’s recipe (https://scrivsland.blogspot.com/2015/01/more-wwi-germans.html?m=1) as a guide but wasn’t quite happy with it.

Well, as it turns out I came across your blog and your paint scheme for DKOK looked perfect. Love the shade of green and the beige interior of the jackets. Nevertheless, I wanted to ask if there was any chance you’d happen to have the recipe still. I saw some comments from years ago asking but without much fruition.

I’d greatly appreciate any info you can give and I completely understand if this is just something that’s been lost to time, thanks.
