Primaris Reavers and Intercessors WIP

With my Death Guard completed, I needed something to just play around with and paint for fun. So I grabbed the First Strike push fit Space Marines and decided to paint up both squads. Initially I planned to make these fit in with my existing Ultramarines force, but I think I may weather these guys up substantially. This was a quick paint job, only taking an afternoon. I think a whole force painted up this way would look really great.

Original Rhino, Predator, And Vindicator Refurb : Before Shots

I haven't posted not because I haven't been working, or wanting to post, but because I bit off more than I can chew! Despite an accurate assessment from Ron, I couldn't resist dunking my old Iron Scythe armor in two tubs of simple green. Three rhinos, a predator, and a vindicator will be added to the pre-heresy heavy Ultramarines force I've always wanted(always is relative here...I am a collector after all!). I think these tanks will look spectacular next to a FW Proteus Land Raider, maybe a few bikes and a load of space marines ready kick ass and take names. It was really cool seeing a nice paint job on an old kit. I've had these since they were released, so these things have been lingering near my painting desk for a very long time.

Anyone know when this kit came out? Maybe it is the whole 25 years of 40k, but I am considering entering this new force in armies on parade instead of my minty Necrons. The neurons are certainly better painted, but nostalgia has its place as well.

Finished Tyrgon With Ruined Ultra Marines Rhino

I just finished the Tyrgon! I cleaned up the bone, and made some ruined Ultra Marines rhino parts to add to the base. I think the blue does a lot to bring out the orange, purple and green of the Tyrgon itself. I had loads of fun painting this guy, and hope the store lets be keep the thing once their competition is over. I think the GW Manager has lit a fire beneath me now to paint up some Tyrannids! I especially love painting ruined ultra marines stuff. This army would give me the opportunity to paint all kinds of damaged ultra stuff, but without having to start an Ultra Marines Army.

I think I must dust the base with some forge world powders before I take it to the store. A miniature is never done!

A few hints for this model.

1) do not glue it to the base before the base is painted and done. I got this one glued down, and there were a lot of really difficult places to reach.

2) Paint the base coat and all of the scales before glueing it together! I could have produced a much cleaner model if I did not have to content with the finished piece rather than the individual segments.

3) Buy one! This things is just loads of fun to paint.

Distraction Painting

I was reading another blog last night and realized that I had never painted an ultra marine. I happened to have a pot of ultra blue, a partially completed Angel's Tempest marine, and an hour to kill. So here he is, my first ultra. My normal method of painting is simple layering followed by really controlled dry brushing. Since Space Hulk came out I have been trying to use layering alone. I am not convinced the technique works for me, however I have not painted enough to really have learned it yet, so you expect more random chapters painted using techniques new to me.
