Punic Wars Models in Epic Scale.
I've really fallen hard for the Warlord Games Epic scale Punic Wars game. I have the Warlord Games plastics as well as great STLs from Cromarty Forge. At the moment I'm treating them as separate projects.

Death Korps of Krieg Hades Assault Drill
I reached into my ancient pile of Forgeworld and came out with this. Behold! A drill with a melta gun attached.

Primearch Lorgar
I've had this guy sitting around for years, but finally decided to give him some paint. I tried using speedpaints as a pin wash rather than my usual enamels. I think I'll stick to enamels next time, the workability is just much better.

British Highlanders WIP
I'm really pleased with how these turned out. Normally during painting there is an ugly phase where it just doesn't feel like the model is going to look good. For these guys that phase lasted almost up until the end. The models are old, but the poses are great and characterful. I'm not sure I'll get around to painting the other half of the box, but I just might after seeing these. The next step is grass. That will have to wait until I have another unit ready and queued up. Flocking sucks.

Vixtrix War Elephant
I'm really enjoying painting all these historical models. They have so much character, which I think offsets the lower quality plastics. GW definitely makes the best kits. It is a shame they never made historical ones. The only problem with my 28mm army is that I bought into the 15mm boxed set from warlord. I'll be painting all of these miniatures again at a smaller scale. I guess that is what happens when you take years to complete a project.

Victrix Numidians for Hail Caesar
Rounding out my Punic wars force is another unit of Numidians. They were more famous for their cavalry, but I'm fond of these heavy infantry models. Shield transfers are from little big man studios.

Gallic Warriors for Hail Caesar
I realize that with the epic scale punic wars coming out from Warlord Games, that 28mm might be redundant, but I am so far along in this project I feel like I need to push on through and complete it. I am one warband short of having a Gallic division complete. Then I only have seven more to go. Ok, so maybe I am not that close after all.

Victrix Gallic Cavalry for Hail Caesar
I bought into 28mm Punic wars before the epic scale was announced, so these will eventually be repeated at a smaller scale. One thing the larger scale provides is excellent shield transfers. These are from Little Big Man, and are excellent. They make the model. I'm not sure the paint job even matters with shields this cool.

Numidians
These are Victrix Numidians which will be used as part of a Carthaginian army for Hail Caesar. For having only four bodies, the arm and head options somehow make the work. However, the idea of painting three more blocks of them is daunting. Fortunately there are so many options for Romans to ally with or fight. I may need to switch it up for a bit and paint some Germans.

Pike & Shotte & Old World
The success of the old world in my area had me looking at alternative armies for the factions not yet supported. Fortunately, Warlord Games makes a whole range suitable for the Empire. I might even play Pike & Shotte as well. I think that is one of the side benefits to Warhammer coming back. Interest in historic games gets a signal boost.

Gauls For Hail Caesar
I've been having fun using speedpaints to paint miniatures that I might otherwise not paint. Speedpaint is just satisfying to use. I am a long way off from having enough models for a Hail Caesar game, but progress is being made. Now the questing is whether I keep painting models for this army, or I start my Italian wars Pike and Shotte army. The temptation is to just flitter around like a magpie.

Warhammer The Old World Empire Cannons
With my Bretonnian army completed, I started working on the Empire of Man. It looks like GW borrowed the asthetic heavily from the German Landsknecht forces of the 1500s, so I painted accordingly. I wish I hadn't used purple since that was not common, but it was within reach so it got used. For my pikemen I will try to stick with yellows, blues, greens, and reds.

Warhammer the Old World
This little diorama is failed print that I just kept painting. It was really fun despite all of the printing flaws. I can recommend Highlands Miniatures wholeheartedly.
