DKOK Death Rider 1st Squad WIP
Before you are eleven almost completed death riders. I took a long painting detour making the flags three colors, before deciding they looked horrible and painting them orange. I am fairly happy with these, yet there seem to be an endless amount of detail still to paint, and I have 15 more of these guys to go. So what is it about NOVA that makes people attempt epic feats of painting? I'm pretty sure a squad of DKoK dies as fast as a normal guard squad after all.

Looking awesome. Looking forward to seeing them all finished and lined up. The orange flags are a nice touch, works well which I am surprised with the Death Riders generally being so muted..
ReplyDeleteStrongly agree. The flags are a great touch.
DeleteIn my experience, people are intimidated by Death Riders. And you have enough of them to soak up a few casualties before the charge hits home.
ReplyDeleteThey look great
Any advice here? I am playing in the narrative, so I don't want to crush anyone. My goal was to use them as counter attack to protect the artillery. It sounds like they are pretty good on their own though.
DeleteYes, but they look cooler dying than other meat shields. KEEP PAINTING!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just finished this batch. They are based, and awaiting decals and pigments. My technique has gotten quite a bit better, so the six being worked on right now are quite a bit easier. I shouldn't have tried to paint 10 at a time.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it...I am painting 15 Admech Dargoons/ironstriders for NOVA and I'm not even going to be around for it. haha!
ReplyDeleteThough honestly thats nowhere near the amount of work you're doing.
DeleteThese are great man! I started a DK army a while ago and was adament that i wanted a big squad of the riders. there is something awesome about horses in 40k.
ReplyDeleteThere is something raw about the intimidation of a Calvary charge. The winged hussars successfully used that raw emotion to defeat forces many times their size.
ReplyDeleteLooking great John. I think the thing with Nova, is everyone is all painting simultaneously, and we all encourage each other simultaneously to keep going. Just as I type thing, I'm finger painting rust on my second display shelf...well now also my keyboard...
