Epic Eldar

A group of us decided to paint up some ancient GW Epic Armageddon armies so we can enjoy some 6mm gaming. Rather than create an army list, I just painted everything I had. This was a mistake. I have so much more epic than I need it is absurd. At least it was fun fast painting and we now have a new game to play.

Designing a Table For Epic Armageddon

I've just started playing around with layouts on this 2x2 board. Eventually there will be four of them to make up a table.  Having cast some foundations it makes sense now to smash them up and place them into the ruined city board. I may make a mould of the this whole 2x2 and then just add buildings and debris as needed.

6mm Epic 30K Building

I wanted some new Epic 30k buildings, so I designed one use CAD and printed it at home using a cheapo DLP printer. This is the first print painted up to a usable state. I didn't spend much time painting this model, the goal was to see how visible the print lines were. I'm fairly please with how it turned out, but there is some waviness to the front of the building. Weirdly, if I print the building at a 30 degree angle instead of straight up, it prints better. Lesson learned. (or relearned in this case thanks to my helpful guru Brian)

Beginnings of an Epic 30k Table

With our first Net Epic Gold 30k game coming up, we needed a table. Instead of repurposing an existing table, I decided to make a whole set of terrain that we could futz with until we figured out how terrain works. I think this is an ok table, but not what I wanted. While the ruined church reads well, the rest of the city blocks look terrible to me. I may have to crush up the bases and glue them directly to the board before I move onto water effects for the holding ponds, and scatter debris. Anyone have suggestions for how to fix this terrain? I love building terrain, but on this table I'm struggling a bit. It might be the huge time constraints, but I think I just got over zealous with making portable city blocks.

Tiny Titan

Like many, I'm waiting for Adeptus Titanicus to be re-released. The teaser rules, and shots of the 10mm titans have been drool inducing. However, the game seems held up. Since we are playing epic now, I needed a warlord titan equivalent for my force. With none available, I decided to print one. It would be a good test of low cost 3D printing. Over the course of a week it slowly printed out the parts to contract this model. The quality is poor, but the model is still quite evocative. I really hope GW releases a similarly styled titan.

Before anyone asks, this guy is not commercially available or for sale. (I do have a lot of Blood Angels on ebay though) Once AT is re-released, I'm going to pick up the new titans and replace him.  At that point this model will be turned into terrain.

Warhounds and Army Shots

This makes up one side of the forces that I am painting for our club games. Depending on how I run it, I either need to paint up orks, or planetary guards next. Orks would allow some practice games to get players used to their units. I also want them to feel the superiority of Astartes. The will make the betrayal games better.

Epic Scale World Eaters

Continuing my trek in to all things Epic, I have painted the first part of my World Eaters legion force. I have so much epic in the painting queue that I had to just dive right in and get painting. This time around I did not bother to do panel shading on the models. (If you look at the thunderhawk below this post you can see what panel shading looks like if you don't already know) The question is whether it is as effective. I think the force looks good, but maybe it lacks the same depth as the Sons of Horus force. On the other hand, I takes so much less time to paint that I was able to get all of these done in a single evening.

Sons of Horus Thunderhawk Epic Scale

Epic 30k has really caught my imagination. It is played at a scale where Thunderhawks and super heavy tanks make sense. Naturally, I had to have a flight of Thunderhawks. Yep, you heard that right. I have a full 8 of these guys to paint. They are split evenly between transporters carrying rhinos, and the traditional gunship model pictured here. I plan to paint at least two different legions, possibly four, in order to play Istavaan III, so quite a few were needed. When they aren't being used for Epic, or Aeronautica Imperialis (think X-Wing but 40k), they will sit on the shelf fueling my imagination.
