Contemptor Class Dreadnought "Chuck"

Since I don't know what army to start next, I decided to strip and repaint my original rogue trader era Chuck dreadnought as a BA furioso. I've been thinking of doing this since the new FW model came out. (yes I ordered one.......couldn't resist)

As anyone who has painted miniatures this old knows, the details are a little mushy, and the quality is poor. However as a nostalgia piece it was kind of fun. One thing I had forgotten though, the really old stuff is lead.

I did not want to use the original small square base, so I had to figure out what to do with all of the empty space on a normal dread base. I decided to really pile on the debris, which hopefully distracts from the lack of detail on the model.

Now the question that begs to be answered, does this guy merit a place on my Armies on Parade board for Games day next week? He looks a little weird visually, but it is an interesting model.

If you have any other suggestions for my next army, Ultras or Wolves, let me know. I already have two votes for wolves.

  2. Neither for me, go Vanilla codex but not smurfs man!

On the subject of 'Chuck' I'm really tempted to get one to play around with myself.

  3. Old school cool! Nice job on the paintjob and base- it works.

My vote is Ultramarines! Great chapter specific models and a striking paint job on the table top

  4. :-) I have one that I modded with chainsaw arms for my DC DN in my Fleshtearers force, mostly nostalgia since it has been in my armies for a LONG time... Good to see others out there...

I'd vote Wolves, but just because they are another army I've played forever :-)

  5. I like the dreadnought, bring it. It will attract attention from all those that have not seen an old dreadnought before. As for details, I am impressed with what you have achieved with regard to the model and its age. As for the army, go for the wolves, it is an old favorite of mine.

  6. Ok the dread is in. Any of you guys going to Games day? If you are, I'd love to meet you.

now onto the army choices. During the Heroes of Armageddon drawing I painted up an ultra marine, as my first test mini. I am not terribly happy with my battle damage recipe, but that is what simple green is for. I am keeping a log of all of my experiments, so I can share them with you. I am going to go through the same process with my wolves. The local GW store (springfield VA) is doing an escalation league, so maybe I will paint both armies.

  7. I love it! I actually just recently dug through my old original storage units. Most of what I've got in there is really crap, but I'm planning on stripping some stuff down and painting it for nostalgia sake :)

I even found a full tactical squad full of the old beige plastic marines. VERY tempted to strip them down and include them in an army for fun.

I see you're in the NOVA area... do you take part in any groups or leagues in the area? I'm up in MD, and my co-author on ProImperator is in VA.

  8. I don't know of any groups or leagues out here, but I am in DC, and would love to join a greater community! Pro Imperator has some seriously impressive stuff! The librarian images are really wonderful!
