Extra Shelves For Ikea Display Cabinets

A friend of mine started a project to add shelves to his Ikea display cabinets which looked like an excellent idea, so I stole it! I managed to find the STL file for the clips on thingiverse.com by searching for Ikea Detolf, and was able to print up a dozen sets in no time. A few screws and bolts later, and I have double my original storage. I am really pleased by this upgrade. The plexiglass I choose is a little bendy, but I think if I put infantry up top rather than tanks it will be just fine.

Ugly Land Raider Part 2

Based on some good comments from my last post, I've added more rust streaking near the spikes, and tried to weather-away(TM) the purple. I'm afraid I just cant't get ride of the purple at this point. So, is this starting to look like one of my vehicles? It is kind of strange, but I don't even recognize this as one of mine!

I think my next step is to add grey/brown/blue streaking to this. Maybe that is too much.

One Ugly Land Raider!

Sometimes things work, and sometimes thing just end. I haven't painted the lenses yet, nor have I hit this thing with mud, or added the rusty chains, but man is this land raider ugly! At this point I have painted everything for my Death Guard. This Land Raider will be used to ferry zombies around the battlefield. If someone could point out a source of decayed human models that I could use to cover this think with bodies it would be great.

Now on the issue of weapon systems...whoa! The new rules make this tank a fortress of destruction. I think I might have to paint one up for my Ultramarines now.

FW Plague Drone WIP 3

A matte finish really helps to pull the shading back into focus. I still have to work on the flesh tears. I think those will be purplish.

Forgeworld Blight Drone WIP 2

If I had a dozen of these models I would paint them using all kinds of different techniques and not get bored. This model is such a pleasure to paint.

Paint Chipping A Plague Drone WIP 1

I've painted all of the new Death Guard models, so while waiting for more releases, I decided to paint up the original plague drone. I much prefer this model to the new one. Perhaps I should have used the same painting techniques. Once the protective coat of lacquer dries I'll be able to start working the flesh portions. Those will build from purple all the way to skin color. This model will probably look out of place in my army, but so be it. It is a blast to paint.

1) Spray model with various rust colors
2) Spray flesh purple.
3) Lacquer the model.
4) Spray several coats of chipping fluid
5) Paint the model normally
6) Using a wet brush agitate off the painted surface to reveal the rust beneath.
7) Lacquer the model.

First Strike Death Guard & Pox Walkers Completed

I've run out of Pox Walkers to paint. Whatever shall I do? :)

I am having so much fun with the Death Guard. I massively over weathered these guys, but since I enjoyed every moment doing it, it was worth it!

Pox Walkers From First Strike Box Set

On Saturday a package from GW came in with the First Strike box set and an additional box of Pox Walkers. Had I known the miniatures were the same I would have only order the box set. The miniatures are just as interesting as those from the Dark Imperium set, but the edges are a little softer. Still, I really enjoyed painted them. I'm using a wet on wet method with generous amounts of wash. Pigments and blood splatter rounds out the miniatures. I'm very pleased with how nice these look in groups, and how well the miniatures contrast with the Plague Marines. (the newly released PM models are up next!)
