Emperor's Children Phoenix Guard

After several years of waiting, Fulgrim now has his Phoenix Guard body guard squad. It took me a lot of time to jump back in and paint EC's but now that I have I think I have enough momentum to keep painting them. The hard point was figuring out my original paint recipe. With that down, I am free to have some fun again.

The last photo is my favorite. It isn't much of an army so far, but it will grow.

    1. Thanks! I've got palatine blades coming up. I just don't know how to base them. Have regular powered armored troops moved to the 30mm bases or do they still use 25mm bases?

    2. You can do either, there are no real rules on them.

  2. Expertly done mate, love the tone of gold you went for contrasted against the dark purple, they look amazing!

To jump in on the above, 32mm bases for power armour models now across the board, it looks the goods too with a bit more room for base work.

    1. Wow thanks Greg. The bases are super simple to make as well. I mix a batch of plaster and pour it into an old flat lid. Let it set and then break it into whatever shapes you want. Then I just base it black, paint the rocks grey, spray steel legion drab around the lower areas of the base to make dirt and then douse the whole thing in Secret Weapon Miniatures Green Earth pigment.

    2. The only brush work needed is the black trim. I can make huge quantities of these at once.

    3. Simple doesn't mean that they don't work wonderfully with the painted models. It's an excellent contrast, and really pops that purple, as well as sharing some of the tones of the golds. It's like you know what you are doing or something! :)

I bought a slew of dragon forge tech bases for mine, but I might heavily rust them up after seeing how this color is working with yours!

    1. Model air gold, oils, dull coat, then edged in fresh model air gold, and then highlighted with silver.
