Emperor's Children Test Mini

I painted two test miniatures to practice purple for my upcoming EC army. Only one of them is shown here. The other looks bizarre at the moment. On this mini I  used all VGC paints. I am considering removing the gryphon sepia wash from the gold, and going with a more silver tone. NMM gold may have to come into play, though that will seriously reduce my productivity.

So, should Emperor's children be purple, or should they be pink/purple. My next test mini will go with a more pink reddish purple.

  1. Your shading and contrast are wonderfully muted, yet, very striking. Nice work!

  2. Nice start! I assume they are preheresy. I would keep them more mid to dark than pink. That way you can play with contrast more and not have to worry too much about tone across the army or even force changes in hue for certain units without them feeling to different.

  4. Nice paint job, but I have to say..... They look quite blue!

  5. Thanks for the compliments guys! I am trying really hard to focus on shading these days, trying to do it without the airbrush + washes. There is a balance to be found, but for the moment I need to practice the old fashioned way. I think that purple looks good, but it does not scream Imperium of Man to me, the way a richer warmer purple would.

GunGrave: They do look a bit blue to me as well. I just added a red tint to the model to see how it would look. What do you think now?
