Primaris Reavers and Intercessors WIP

With my Death Guard completed, I needed something to just play around with and paint for fun. So I grabbed the First Strike push fit Space Marines and decided to paint up both squads. Initially I planned to make these fit in with my existing Ultramarines force, but I think I may weather these guys up substantially. This was a quick paint job, only taking an afternoon. I think a whole force painted up this way would look really great.

Bolt Action Panther WIP 2

The Panther is coming along nicely. I had some trouble with the spare tracks, but I think some dark washes will smooth them out a bit. The barrel of the gun needs to be reworked as well. Oil stains, and some more mud stains are still needed for the hull. I was thinking about trying to make tiny foliage branches for the model, but that might distract from the painting too much.

Will this model ever see the table top? Probably not. I do have a 'new' winter German force to paint that will eventually end up used for gaming. Most of my WW2 games are 1/72 scale these days, but I have a substantial backlog of 28mm models in the back log.

Bolt Action Panther WIP 1

I've had this resin Panther G sitting in my drawer for a long time, and figured it was time. Unlike most of Bolt Action forces, I wanted to weather this guy with paint chipping solution. So after carefully spraying on a whole lot of variable rust colors,  I sprayed on three heavy coats of Mig absolute chipping. However, when it came time to chip the top layer of paint away I couldn't get it to work. I don't know what caused the paint to become un-chippable, but after using this same solution on both Death Guard vehicles, I was pretty confident in my technique. What you see on the model here is chipping done by hand. It is no where near as interesting as that which is caused naturally, but I can't leave the tank un-chipped.

I haven't decided if I want to add some kind of camouflage to the Panther, or if I should just heavily weather this guy. I was thinking about using a green squiggly pattern, or potentially hard edged green camo. A hard edge would allow me to try paint chipping solution again. That is somewhat desirable, but I wonder what it would look like to have both chipping effects side by side.

Full Of SH#$

My opinion of Donald Trump. I think the turd came out pretty well. Even if you disagree with my politics, you must admit that black paint is pretty awesome!

Four Hours In

I am a little over four hours into the model at this point, but I think I might have achieved what I wanted to with the model. I paint for my own enjoyment, and I think that means this model is done for now. A good splattering of gore would improve it, but that should wait until I firmly decide that I am finished.

Extra Shelves For Ikea Display Cabinets

A friend of mine started a project to add shelves to his Ikea display cabinets which looked like an excellent idea, so I stole it! I managed to find the STL file for the clips on by searching for Ikea Detolf, and was able to print up a dozen sets in no time. A few screws and bolts later, and I have double my original storage. I am really pleased by this upgrade. The plexiglass I choose is a little bendy, but I think if I put infantry up top rather than tanks it will be just fine.

Ugly Land Raider Part 2

Based on some good comments from my last post, I've added more rust streaking near the spikes, and tried to weather-away(TM) the purple. I'm afraid I just cant't get ride of the purple at this point. So, is this starting to look like one of my vehicles? It is kind of strange, but I don't even recognize this as one of mine!

I think my next step is to add grey/brown/blue streaking to this. Maybe that is too much.

One Ugly Land Raider!

Sometimes things work, and sometimes thing just end. I haven't painted the lenses yet, nor have I hit this thing with mud, or added the rusty chains, but man is this land raider ugly! At this point I have painted everything for my Death Guard. This Land Raider will be used to ferry zombies around the battlefield. If someone could point out a source of decayed human models that I could use to cover this think with bodies it would be great.

Now on the issue of weapon systems...whoa! The new rules make this tank a fortress of destruction. I think I might have to paint one up for my Ultramarines now.

FW Plague Drone WIP 3

A matte finish really helps to pull the shading back into focus. I still have to work on the flesh tears. I think those will be purplish.

Forgeworld Blight Drone WIP 2

If I had a dozen of these models I would paint them using all kinds of different techniques and not get bored. This model is such a pleasure to paint.

Paint Chipping A Plague Drone WIP 1

I've painted all of the new Death Guard models, so while waiting for more releases, I decided to paint up the original plague drone. I much prefer this model to the new one. Perhaps I should have used the same painting techniques. Once the protective coat of lacquer dries I'll be able to start working the flesh portions. Those will build from purple all the way to skin color. This model will probably look out of place in my army, but so be it. It is a blast to paint.

1) Spray model with various rust colors
2) Spray flesh purple.
3) Lacquer the model.
4) Spray several coats of chipping fluid
5) Paint the model normally
6) Using a wet brush agitate off the painted surface to reveal the rust beneath.
7) Lacquer the model.
