This is a warning for anyone who airbrushes and thought that Microscale's Micro Mask would be good to use to mask off complex shapes like space marine iconography or shoulder pads. Avoid it at all costs. It may be good for something, but as a mask it fails.
I love micro set and micro sol, but Micro Mask is garbage. I now consider the internet warned.
On the other hand, I now get to enjoy hours of tediously picking rubbery mask off of my Tyranid war veterans. I mean who doesn't enjoy stabbing themselves in the fingers repeatedly, while trying to get tiny globs of rubber off of miniatures. Good times.
(you guys were right. I wish I had taken your warnings!)
AGH! I feel your pain!!! You know what I found out works really well for that? It was a total accident too that I found it. Very heavily used blue/yellow tack. You know the stuff you are about to throw away because it barely sticks the mini to the top of the paint jar anymore because there is so much paint /primer in it? If you seal the parts with gloss coat and then press that stuff over where you need it, it keeps the paint out and won't strip off what you have on there due to the gloss coat and reduced tackiness.
ReplyDeleteThx alot for the warning ahhhhh.... :(
ReplyDeleteThat kind of mask is really only made for scale models with flat surfaces...
ReplyDeleteMicroMask is really only good for masking the "glass" on vehicle canopies.
ReplyDeleteYeahhh, I tested it in small scale... but ugh, did that turn out wrong!
ReplyDeleteIt works to a point. Your not supposed to leave it on over night or anything. Just get it on, do your deed and take it off. As soon possible. Probably goes with any liquid masks. For me I just use silly putty, sounds silly, but it works :-D
ReplyDeletedestroyed an entire cockpit with micromask just now
ReplyDelete, will never use product again.
