I wanted to do something different with my Necrons, so my first paint scheme test is mint green ceramic plates with boltgun metal joints, and a Space Wolf grey head. The idea was to paint this as quickly as possible and then weather the armor with sponged damage, powders, or streaks of dev mud wash. The gun and barrel are not completed either, I just wanted to see how bad the lime green barrel looked. I plan to test my weathering before I dip this guy in simple green. At the moment I am on the fence. I like seeing painted Necrons, but I really can't imagine how this guy will look finished yet. I suppose when the gun barrel is painted to look like blue plasma, and the gun is shaded grey it will help. Any opinions on the color scheme so far?

Mint Green Necron Paint Test
I like the idea of the kinda "pastel" colour. I don't care much for the different head colour, I would keep them all the same.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the heads have to match: I know I'm going to have mine different. In this case, though, I don't think there's enough contrast for it to really work.
ReplyDeleteSo far it is looking very good. I like the green and the blue head. Works very well. The guy might actually work well as boltgun metal like the joints. The gun barrel would be cool as an electric blue.
ReplyDeleteOn the fence? This fig looks fantastic, I'd keep it just the way it is. Well, if I had to mix up something it would be to replace the green 'glow rods' with trans blue ones as Old Shatter Hands suggests, but that's a bit more involved (but still doable).
ReplyDeletePretty trippy. I'm kinda out of it hobby wise, but I take it a lot of new Necron armies will be taking the battlefield in 2012...
ReplyDeleteThe head looks... a bit too much like a guy in full armour, to be honest. It sort of suggests that he's that colour underneath. I'd have been tempted to either have it the same (since it's all carapace) or really push that 'what they look like underneath' idea and have it in metal.
ReplyDeleteNot a color I'd pick, but it looks great. I'd worry how a large group would look together... or a monolith? It might be great! Or it might be a bit minty?
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this scheme. The mint green should work well with both the current boltgun metallics, but also with gold detailing on some of the elite and character models.
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice to see this executed. I've been thinking about a similar paint scheme. I'd been thinking about Necrons for awhile and thought that a "surgical"-look for Necrons would be pretty creepy. So, then I asked my friends which they thought would be creepier - a shiny, clean, flawless surgical look, or a disused, rusty surgical look. They were unanimous in their agreement on the rusty surgical look. I look forward to see how you weather this guy.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about painting the vehicles a coal or earthy dark grey. Basically mud/black as a way to tie in with the mint color. Rust will stand out on both colors, and there is plenty of contrast. What do you guys think? What colors should I make the vehicles?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Needs a small gold or purple accent middleways through the body though.
ReplyDeleteNot going to lie, but seeing these pictures really gave me craving for Andes Mints. lol!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I like the mint colored scheme quite a bit. I, however, don't like the differing color head. I cannot place the exact reason why, but it does bother me. Probably my OCD kicking in. haha.
daaaaaaamn, now that's slick. I really like the colouring.
ReplyDeleteNice work! I'd love to know how you got that dark grey color on the monolith/ghost ark rear...
