I never paint my commanders first no matter how tempting! I think your being harsh on yourself on those astral claws, the gold details are superb and two coats of thinned down codex/astronomican grey (1:1:2 thinner:water:paint) over the armour plates inside your final highlight should clean up the washes and still leave you with nice shading.Crosser Modellinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09931376286941189265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-57789052650586274152011-01-16T07:24:19.020-07:002011-01-16T07:24:19.020-07:00I am going to try a mint green death corps test mi...I am going to try a mint green death corps test mini today. The pooling got away from me. basically these minis need constant attention while washes are drying. I cheated a bit and used a hair dryer for the last few tone-down washes.

Since I could not make up my mind on the DKOK I painted the Tyrant of Badab and a squad of Iron Armor honor guard. Epic fail! Some times painting mojo just fails. :)John Stieninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01860350974000948346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-21765756637266801742011-01-16T05:27:57.450-07:002011-01-16T05:27:57.450-07:00It might just be the pics but it looks like theres...It might just be the pics but it looks like theres a bit of pooling on the greatcoat. A few thinner washes, or just pulling some of the washes from where it pools would sort that. Otherwise he looks great. I really like your mint green colour scheme though, because its 1) great and 2) looks different to every other DKOK scheme.Crosser Modellinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09931376286941189265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-44292029201818636152011-01-15T21:49:48.468-07:002011-01-15T21:49:48.468-07:00It looks pretty good. Not only is the coat incredible, but the black - using washes to paint a black, which is normally hard to highlight well, this really does an excellent job of it.Dave Garbehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01557481319925772152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-66215698694048791942011-01-15T18:11:05.013-07:002011-01-15T18:11:05.013-07:00I like the coat in the places where the wash is sp...I like the coat in the places where the wash is spread out and did not pool up as much or as bad.
In those spots, it looks amazing.

Get that sorted out and I think he's great looking.
Ron, From the WarpSpace Hulk Enthusiasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03522498406401972832noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-12933200623399543012011-01-15T15:20:06.891-07:002011-01-15T15:20:06.891-07:00Lovely. Everything but the white front on the mask. I just looks to me completely out of order.

It looks way to new. You need to give it some weathering i think. maybe try with some black/brown ink then drybrush it with some white?
