The tones look a bit muted, which actually works in your advantage as the sculpt is a bit overblown!

You'll probably be happier if you stick him on the shelf for a while and then come back later. I think the sculpt is just a little wonky and as such it looks a little odd. You've done a cracking job on it!Mordian7thhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04631987711681654113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-84278714494745070982017-04-26T02:15:37.385-07:002017-04-26T02:15:37.385-07:00Not sure if it was different lighting, or somethin...Not sure if it was different lighting, or something else going on with the camera, but to mye tired old eyes, the helmeted version looks a different model to the unhelmeted vesion, for the better I'll add. The tonal quality of the model overall in the helmeted picture, together with the weathering appearing more muted, and the helemt adding a surprising focii (something missing on the GW version where they made the helmet blue), really help sell that version.

I think he's come out great, but do think the model itself is to blame for the funny vibes. I have the FW version and while it also has lots of bling, its not as distracting as the swirly gear on the GW version.LWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04769460904008281915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-51965186283762684812017-04-26T02:05:08.686-07:002017-04-26T02:05:08.686-07:00Switch back to the helmet, add something to the ba...Switch back to the helmet, add something to the base to break up the block colour and you are sorted.Rory (Stepping Between Games)https://www.blogger.com/profile/11795468944108833350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-74155148341160764602017-04-25T12:01:41.171-07:002017-04-25T12:01:41.171-07:00You put it perfectly. Hard to pick any one thing out because of it. That is a tough nut to crack because if you push the contrast more he will look cartoony. I felt very meh about his release and thought it was just a smurf reaction, but now I can pin it down to the sculpt. Too ornate and busy. I think you did a great job with him, but he just fights your style so much. Definitely worth coming back to after a bit ;)Zabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07000817078818838705noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2896607568583881271.post-64757024758460459282017-04-25T08:33:11.608-07:002017-04-25T08:33:11.608-07:00I love the sword without the flames. (bringing back the debate) I think he came out looking good!.. are you happier with the looks sans flames? Maybe add a little scrub to the base to break up the stones? I think that could add a lot of interest even with a little in the cracked areas.SincaiNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08332303756578685408noreply@blogger.com
